A surface is a boundary between two regions of space; it has zero volume and can have infinite extent. A region of space can be described by a Boolean combination of surfaces. We refer to a region described in terms of surfaces as a cell. (Often, when describing the properties of a region, cell and zone can be used interchangeably.)
