Variable Cylinder Tessellation

Many models of reactors and fuel rod shipping casks typically contain lots of small cylinders representing fuel and coolant channels and a few large outer cylinders. The default number of slices—12—is adequate for the smaller cylinders, but is too coarse for the outer cylinders. Increasing the number of slices for all cylinders would have a negative impact on 3D performance because of the large increase in the number of polygons displayed. The 3D Style property page has an option to increase the number of cylinder slices by a factor F if the radius is larger than R times the largest cylindrical radius in the model (including RCC bodies). The factor should be in the range 0 < R < 1. Setting R > 1 turns off the option.

Examples of models with and without variable cylinder tessellation.
