Universe and fill assignments can be typed on the Cell property page. The current universe can be assigned to a cell or a lattice element by clicking on it in a 2D window; the process is initiated from the Universe dialog or Cell menu. While in the universe assignment mode, the current universe can be changed with the + and - keys on the numeric keypad. The Universe dialog contains a setting for plotting only a selected universe.
Lattices can be created and modified. The Cell Lattice property page contains buttons for converting a cell bounded by planes into a lattice; the conversion does not take place if the object does not satisfy the lattice requirements. For newly created and existing lattices, the page contains fields to change the lattice extent in each direction. A default filling universe may be assigned to each element of a newly created lattice.
A filling universe can be assigned to the grid elements by entering the assign lattice fill mode from the Universe dialog or Cell menu. A simple click assigns the fill to single element.
When assigning a universe to lattice elements, holding down the Control key permits a line to dragged with the left mouse button. The current universe is assigned to all elements under the line. The line is constrained to lie along one of the principal lattice directions. Such a line may not be possible for some slices through a hexahedron (type 2) lattice.
Holding the Shift key and dragging results in a box; the universe is assigned to all elements under and enclosed by the box.
