3D Performance with Tally Meshes



Very large mesh tally plots may degrade the 3D performance. How large is very large depends primarily on the computer’s video card. One method to improve performance is to use collapsed meshes as described below. When collapsed, fewer 3D primitives are drawn with a lesser impact on 3D performance. The user may also wish to consider display limitations when specifying a mesh tally. Consider the largest mesh tally in
this Figure See multiple mesh tallies. This mesh contains 3 layers in the vertical direction. The bottom 2 layers add little to the information shown in the picture but, because of the large horizontal extents, have a large impact on the 3D performance. It may be advisable to define 3 mesh tallies, each consisting of a separate vertical layer.
